Inside the operation

Four acres,
nine stations,
one direction of travel.

A pallet enters at the scale on the north fence and leaves either as a pallet, a crate, a planter or a cubic yard of mulch. Nothing turns around and goes out the way it came in.

Schematic, not to scale. The actual gravel has more puddles.

Standing in it

What four acres actually looks like.

Tall stacks of used wooden pallets filling a yard under a clear sky, warehouse beyond.
AThe north fence, looking back toward the shed. Inbound cores land here off the scale.
Banded and sorted pallet stacks of mixed grades under a canopy at the edge of a yard.
BSorted and banded by footprint, waiting on the repair line or a release.
Graded pallets stacked on a warehouse floor beside an open dock door with racking behind.
CUnder cover. Off the ground, airflow on two sides, and nothing wrapped damp.
The part visitors notice

It smells like a sawmill and sounds like a drum kit.

Sixteen pneumatic nailers firing out of time with each other is the signature sound of a repair shed. Under it: the band saw, the grinder two hundred feet away, and somebody shouting a footprint across the shed. There is no music because nobody can agree on any.

  • Inbound scale — certified, printed ticket, your copy in the cab
  • Sort line — three graders, one supervisor, no conveyor (we tried; a human eye is faster)
  • Repair shed — four benches, band saw, stringer plating station
  • Heat chamber — probes in the thickest member, logged per batch
  • Kiln — moisture down to 19% or below for mould-sensitive programmes
  • Grinder — tub grinder, screened to three mulch sizes
  • Millwork bench — where short boards become planters and risers
  • Mulch bays — natural, black and brown, loaded by yard
Visiting

You are welcome, with a caveat.

It is an active industrial yard. Closed-toe shoes, high-vis if you have it, and please do not walk behind a reversing flatbed. Email ahead and we will meet you at the gate rather than leaving you to guess.

Next step

Let's get wood moving

Whether you have 40 broken pallets behind the building or need 4,000 a month, the next step is the same: tell us the footprint and the frequency.
